Welcome to Crochetville’s fifth annual National Crochet Month (NatCroMo) blog tour, taking place each day of March 2017. Join us for a month of virtual glamping (aka glamorous camping), as we visit crochet designers, crochet-friendly local yarn stores, and yarn companies, as well as offer some fun giveaways.
Today’s Posts: Beth Major | Cylinda Mathews | Leslie Stahlhut
Want to Chat about the Tour?
Part of the fun of glamping is the daily round-up around the campfire, chatting and stitching with friends. We hope you’ll join us in our NatCroMo Facebook group, where we’ll be sharing daily camping recipes, campfire songs about crochet, and so much more! We’d also love to hear about your favorite things you’ve discovered on the tour and see photos of your current crochet projects. You’re invited to join us daily for virtual cocktails/appetizers and dinner. (We’ll be sharing links to some fabulous recipes!)

Cylinda Mathews, Crochet Memories
Crochetville is very proud to have designer Cylinda Mathews of Crochet Memories with us today, March 13, as one of the featured designers on our 2017 Designer Blog Tour in honor of National Crochet Month (NatCroMo). If you’d like to know even more about Cylinda, check out our post from last year’s blog tour.
About Cylinda:
I first started designing in the 1980’s when I couldn’t find many patterns for three-dimensional angels. After a couple prototypes, I came up with the Angels in Harmony which I sold the finished angels for many years before finally submitting my design to Leisure Arts. It was my first published works in a magazine; Crochet with Heart.
In 1997 I founded Crochet Memories to continue to my designing career in featuring thread sculpted patterns which were not in demand. Since then; twenty years later, I’ve designed hundreds of patterns I sell and quite a few free patterns which can be found on my blog.
My mission goal is to provide quality patterns with dedication, accurateness, and customer service as my priority. I plan to continue designing for years to come and invite you to stop by for a visit!
Do you crochet in public? If so, when and where?
I used to crochet everywhere and I still take my crochet with me on vacation and trips. I rarely take my crochet with me on errands or to places on our days off.
Do you have a special place at home where you crochet? Tell us about it.
I don’t particularly have a special place to crochet but have been known to sit at my desk, while lounging on the sofa watching day time shows, and while relaxing in the recliner while watching TV in the evening.
Share the story of your favorite thing you’ve ever crocheted or designed.
I have many items I’ve designed that I’m very happy with the end results. One of my favorite designs is the Spring Butterfly Garden Doily. I love pineapples, butterflies and roses and I incorporated all within this doily. I’ve always been inspired by a pineapple doily worked with pineapples on opposing ends. I’ve seen variations with ruffles etc., so this was definitely a long-term project in the making (if even only in my mind), until 2015 when I designed it.
Tell us about any other fiber-related hobbies you enjoy.
I enjoy many fiber related hobbies but seldom have time to indulge. They include embroidery, candlewicking, crewel embroidery, needlepoint, sewing, and cross stitching. I’m so out of practice with most now I’m sure my work would look like I was just learning! 😉
How do you decide what to name your patterns?
I usually incorporate stitches, shapes, and seasons or holidays into my name decisions; sometimes creating very long titles in the process.
Tell us about your most popular pattern.
My most popular pattern has to be my Pineapple Cascade Angel. She usually ends up being a top seller every Christmas. I designed her several years back, once again, incorporating pineapples into a full skirt. She stands approximately 12″ tall and has matching double pineapple wings and capelet.
Tell us about your favorite camping location.
It’s been years since we’ve been camping but when we did, we camped at the Kern River in CA. Usually the temperatures are mild, you’re next to a beautiful river, and great trees. The reason we chose the Kern River is I had camped their as a child with my parents almost every summer. Great memories!
What is your favorite camping tip?
Make a list of all the homemade snacks you plan to have for your trip and make them a few days before you make your trip. Also list all items needed so you only need check off as you pack. No stress!
What is your favorite camping snack/meal/recipe?
Breakfast is my favorite meal, especially when camping. It’s got to be scrambled eggs and bacon with homemade biscuits.
