A-Glamping We Will Go: 5th Annual National Crochet Month Blog Tour
Welcome to Crochetville’s fifth annual National Crochet Month (NatCroMo) blog tour, taking place each day of March 2017. Join us for a month of virtual glamping (aka glamorous camping), as we visit crochet designers, crochet-friendly local yarn stores, and yarn companies, as well as offer some fun giveaways.
Today’s Posts: Sonya Blackstone | Christa Veenstra | CGOA Crochet Conference | Daily Giveaway
Want to Chat about the Tour?
Part of the fun of glamping is the daily round-up around the campfire, chatting and stitching with friends. We hope you’ll join us in our NatCroMo Facebook group, where we’ll be sharing daily camping recipes, campfire songs about crochet, and so much more! We’d also love to hear about your favorite things you’ve discovered on the tour and see photos of your current crochet projects. You’re invited to join us daily for virtual cocktails/appetizers and dinner. (We’ll be sharing links to some fabulous recipes!)

Sonya Blackstone, Blackstone Designs
Crochetville is very proud to have designer Sonya Blackstone of Blackstone Designs with us today, March 23, as one of the featured designers on our 2017 Designer Blog Tour in honor of National Crochet Month (NatCroMo). If you’d like to know even more about Sonya, check out our post from last year’s blog tour.
About Sonya:
Hi, everyone! I’m Sonya, the designer behind Blackstone Designs. I live (buried in yarn) in Central Maine with my husband and three children.
I learned to crochet in early 2000 and started designing in 2012.
I have been a designer in several crochet competitions, and my designs have been featured in various online and print publications, but mostly I’m an indie designer, self-publishing my patterns on Ravelry, Craftsy, Etsy, and LoveCrochet. My patterns range from toys to decor to clothing and more; both free and premium.
I hope you find something you like!
Do you crochet in public? If so, when and where?
Yes! I crochet at doctor’s appointments or at my children’s sports practices. I bring my crochet most places, so I would really do it anywhere that time permits.
Do you have a special place at home where you crochet? Tell us about it.
I crochet on my couch or in my bed at night. The entire couch is dedicated to me and my yarn most days. Good thing we have other furniture, so my husband and children have a place to sit!
Share the story of your favorite thing you’ve ever crocheted or designed.
In September of 2014, I won a design competition with my first cardigan design. I did not feel very confident about it, because I was still fairly new to garments, so it definitely holds a special place in my heart.
Tell us about any other fiber-related hobbies you enjoy.
I recently learned to knit (I’m technically still learning). I had tried a few times in the past, but I just could not get the hang of it. It just clicked for me this time, and I couldn’t be happier. I’m having a lot of fun with it!
How do you decide what to name your patterns?
Sometimes the name pops in my head before I’m even with finished the project; other times I poll my fans and get their suggestions.
Tell us about your most popular pattern.
The Lyrical Maxi Vest is a long vest that features a semi-lace bottom and long fringe trim.
