About Christina Galdamez

Please allow me to introduce our featured hobbyist of the day, Christina Galdamez. She enjoys crocheting baby items (blankets, clothes, etc.) as well as baskets and bags. Today Christina will share some of her crochet memories with us and we’ll showcase three of her crochet projects.

Christina’s Crochet Memories

Would you share with us one of your earliest memories of crochet?

“I learned to crochet when I was 11 years old. I learned at school and I love it because I had the greatest teacher. My school was a finishing school which means that you learn different things on top of the usual subjects. One of these was craft, which was something I knew nothing about. At the beginning of the year we had to choose what to learn and then design a tablecloth and make it. I couldn’t choose so my teacher suggested crochet, it was hard at the beginning but with my teachers help I learned quickly. She was really passionate about crochet and that inspired me. By the time l had started designing my tablecloth I was in love! It’s been the same since, and I have been crocheting for 37 years.”

Would you share with us one of your most memorable experiences as a crocheter?

“What I love the most about crocheting is the whole process of choosing what to make, what yarn to use, what colours go well together but most of all I love the reactions of the people you make the things for.”

Would you share with us another crochet memory?

“I remember how happy I was when I found out my first baby was on her way! So I decided to make items for her to use. It was exciting to plan and choose what to make and making things for my own babies is what made me love making items for babies.”
