It’s a virtual celebration of National Crochet Month with new blog content daily throughout March, including featured crochet designers, pattern showcases, free patterns, coupons, discounts, giveaways, and more. This year’s theme is Pawprints on Our Hearts, so we’ll talk about our pets – furry, feathered, and scaly!

About Jessie

I’ve been crocheting since my great grandmother first handed me a hook at the age of 8. I’ve been knitting since my mid-twenties when my boss had to put a critique in my review, so he wrote, “It would be nice if she could knit.” I started off my professional life as a costume designer, creator, and pattern maker and I hold a BFA in costume design and technology and an MA in studio art focusing on painting and sculpture. Shortly after becoming a mother in 2007 I started Jessie At Home as a way to share the twins with my family. Eventually it evolved into a site full of patterns and fun for yarn lovers and crafters. I’ve earned several design awards and have been published in various on and off line crochet and knit publications. I’ve taught various fiber arts to students of all ages. I love seeing the light click when my students “get it” and nurturing the love of fiber arts in others. I firmly believes there can never be enough art and beauty in the world, and that knit and crochet soothe the soul.
Recently I founded Showstopper Creations with the goal of creating a truly diverse community for knitters and crocheters who want to create showstopping masterpieces with their own signature style. Showstopper Creations is the perfect combination of all my loves and is my true calling. The official opening is April 1, and we are currently in previews for those who want to get an early start at showstopping awesomeness. If you crochet or knit and can play nice with others, then you are welcome!

About Jessie’s Pets
Please tell us about your pets!
When I was 5 our next door neighbor’s dog had puppies. My brother and I were allowed to pick one to be ours, and we chose a sweet little black pup that we named Shecky Jolly Green. We visited Shecky every day until she was old enough to come and live with us, at which point she still got to visit her mom a lot! Over the next 10 years we moved a lot and life wasn’t always easy, but Shecky was always there. She always knew when I needed a hug, or just a friend to sit with me. Shecky was a mutt, but she looked like a black lab, with a little diamond of white on her chest, just under her neck. Through my life we had many pets: a one-eyed duck who thought she was a dog, a cat who was a jerk, an alligator lizard named Jaws, a tarantula who’s mentioned in the dedication of a James Howe book, a tortoise, mice, snakes, and more kinds of lizards then I care to count; but Shecky was my favorite.
Favorite Crochet Reference
What is one of your favorite crochet reference books or websites that is one of your go-to sources for crochet information?
Can I just say Edie Eckman? Everything and anything Edie Eckman. She has books, classes, and an awesome blog. Not only is Edie a fabulous design and an awesome human, but she is the queen of pattern writing. Reading her patterns is a great way to learn how to write patterns, and she shares so many awesome tips on pattern reading in her blog and through other sources.

Design Showcase: Mossy Oaks Rug
Pattern name: Mossy Oaks Rug
Get the pattern: https://www.jessieathome.com/crochet-post-stitch-rug/
About the pattern: The crochet post stitch adds amazing texture and definition to the Mossy Oaks Rug. It’s soft and squishy and your feet will thank you. Made with acrylic yarn it’s easy care, so it’s awesome for a pet rug. By holding two strands of yarn together as one, the colors fade into each other in a very appealing way.

Design Showcase: Dog Walker Hat – with bonus leash pattern
Pattern name: Dog Walker Hat – with bonus leash pattern
Get the pattern: https://www.jessieathome.com/dog-walker-hat/
About the pattern: The Dog Walker Hat is stretchy and long, so it fits many sizes. It stretches for larger sizes and the bottom can be folded up for smaller sizes. It also uses a reflective carry-along thread so it reflects light. This makes it great for late night walks as it will reflect in car headlights so you are more likely to be seen. Plus, there’s a bonus leash pattern for your furry friend!

Design Showcase: Tripet – a happy monster that wants to play
Pattern name: Tripet – a happy monster that wants to play
Get the pattern: https://www.jessieathome.com/tripet-a-happy-monster/
About the pattern: Tripet is a happy little three-legged monster that wants to play! He’s adorable and huggable and stands all on his own. Tripet brings joy and love wherever he goes. Use some Poly Pellets in his feet to help him stand, and then fill the rest of him with Poly Fil. You can even add more legs or arms, as they are all attached separately. Tripet is made in several pieces and then joined together. He’d be amazing in lots of other color combos as well, making him a great stash buster.
