The 2014 Designer Blog Tour in honor of National Crochet Month continues today with a visit to crochet designer April Garwood.
April has been designing professionally since 2010. Her designs have appeared in Interweave Crochet, Crochet Today!, Crochet World and Crochet 1-2-3 magazines, as well as a few patterns that have been published with Coats & Clark. You can find her indie collection of patterns on Ravelry, Etsy, and Craftsy (links below). Like many of us, she has yarn in her hands as often as possible. She crochets proficiently, and knits and spins much less-proficiently. April has a weakness for high-end luxury fiber and anything colorful. She is happiest designing accessories, children’s items, and garments in natural fibers. April lives in Oklahoma with her wonderfully supportive husband and her four young daughters, whom she homeschools and hangs out with full time.
National Crochet Month Plans
April will be offering a free pattern on her website as a part of the blog tour. It will remain free for good on her blog. It is called “Gardens Galore Garland” and provides instructions for a few small pieces, including two flowers, that can be used to make a garland.

On CGOA:
April is a professional member of CGOA (Crochet Guild of America), and she has this to share about her CGOA experience:
Being a member of CGOA was such a huge help when I was getting started as a designer! It put me in touch with other professionals, all of whom were so willing to help and answer questions! I signed up for the mentor program and had an experienced professional that I could email when I needed help with something. The conferences that I have attended have been so fun! The shopping was fabulous, the classes were enriching, and the opportunity to meet many of those other professionals face-to-face was a huge boost to my career!
