Three Truths and a Lie:

Take a guess as to which of the following statements isn’t true. We’ll try to let you know which statement is “The Lie” somewhere in this post. If we just can’t work it in, we’ll post the truth at the bottom of the post!

  1. Luz has lived in the UK almost half of her life.
  2. She is originally from Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands, in Spain.
  3. Luz really does not like chocolate cake.
  4. Luz has three children: a boy and twin girls who are only 18 months apart, so it’s sometimes like having triplets!

Luz’s Designs:

If you’re not familiar with her work already, we’d like to share two of Luz’s designs with you.

Boho Bag 166 by Luz Mendoza
Boho Bag 166, available for $4.99 on Ravelry

“Getting ready for the spring, here is my first super colorful bag of 2014! I had quite a lot of fun putting the colours together for this bag. I basically went through all my ends and decided I was going to make something really awesome with them! I am very happy with the end result!”

Lacy Fingerless Gloves 117 by Luz Mendoza

“I found this lace stitch so addictive! I have taken lots of pictures of the stitch to guide you through it. This is a photo tutorial crochet pattern, with plenty of pictures to help you with the lace stitches, but I have marked this pattern as a intermediate level.”

About Luz:

Her Crochet Beginnings

Luz has been crocheting for so long, she doesn’t remember when she first learned how to crochet. She was lucky enough to have three family members who taught her different things about crochet: her grandmother, aunt, and mother (in that order). While she can’t remember the first crochet project she ever made, she does remember making tiny little skirts for her dolls.

Becoming a Designer

ID-100314366

Luz loves sharing what she knows with others and feels there is no better way than by writing how-tos so people can check out what she is doing. She says, “I design for my kids and for my family. My career progressed naturally as my family’s needs are very similar to most families.”

Developing a Personal Style

Luz is becoming known for designs that are fun and playful, full of style, and comfortable, all at the same time. She tries to take a modern approach to designing crochet garments. Her customers frequently comment on how stylish they think her designs are.

Inspiration

Luz gets inspiration for her designs from just about everywhere! She says, “All my kids’ patterns come from my kids really. The rest could be just about anything I see in a magazine or a combination of colours in a fabric dress worn by a celebrity. Anywhere really.”

Some of Luz’s Favorites:

Favorite Hooks: Luz says she has hooks from just about all the different brands. She just picks by the size, and doesn’t really have a preference for a specific brand.

Favorite Yarn: Weights: DK and aran; Fibers: merino, alpaca, silk, bamboo, cotton

Favorite Thing to Crochet: Hats and bags

Favorite Designer: Vanessa Montoro

Predictions for the Next Big Trend in Crochet:

Super chunky garments

Advice for New Crocheters:

“Keep going, don’t be disheartened if things don’t go your way. It is really an amazing art! You won’t be disappointed!”

  1. I love these slippers. I notice you do a lot of work in neutral colors.but your handbags always seem to be vivid with a lot of pop. Interesting contrast.
