Want to Chat about the Tour?

Part of the fun of taking a passenger steam train trip is talking with your fellow passengers. This year, we’re providing two locations where our passengers can get to know each other. We’d love to hear about your favorite things you’ve discovered on the tour and see photos of your current crochet projects. You’re invited to join us daily for virtual cocktails/appetizers and dinner. (We’ll be sharing links to some fabulous recipes!)

Sonya Blackstone, Blackstone Designs

Sonya Blackstone

Crochetville is very proud to have designer Sonya Blackstone with us today, March 18, as one of the featured designers on our 2016 Designer Blog Tour in honor of National Crochet Month (NatCroMo). If you’d like to know even more about Sonya, check out our post from last year’s blog tour.

About Sonya:

Hi! I’m Sonya, the owner of Blackstone Designs. I live in Maine with my husband and 3 children. I learned to crochet in early 2000 and started designing at the end of 2012. I consider myself to be a design dabbler, creating things from toys to accessories, but I find the most joy in designing clothing. My favorite yarns to work with are plant-based or anything with shimmer; I’m a total sucker for glitter yarns! I have been a designer in several crochet competitions and my designs have been featured in various online and print publications. I hope to have many more in the future.

When I am not wrapped up in yarn loveliness, I am usually just doing another craft and trying to get one of my children just as excited about them as I am!

1. Tell us about a “dream” travel location that you’d like to visit one day:

I have always wanted to visit Ireland. I would love to see the castles, ancient monuments, and in general the gorgeous natural attractions.

2. Packing: Tell us about any crochet clothing or accessories you pack when traveling. Do you have any cool packing tips to share?

I always have my purse, tank top or sweater, and usually a hat or headband that I have crocheted for myself. Sometimes I bring a shopping bag too.

3. Tell us about any crochet projects you take with you when traveling: How many projects do you take? How do you decide which ones to take?

I like to have a variety of projects with me. I take something small that’s quick and easy, and I take something a little more complex to take up some time. And of course, plenty of extra yarn in case inspiration strikes.
