Want to Chat about the Tour?

Part of the fun of taking a passenger steam train trip is talking with your fellow passengers. This year, we’re providing two locations where our passengers can get to know each other. We’d love to hear about your favorite things you’ve discovered on the tour and see photos of your current crochet projects. You’re invited to join us daily for virtual cocktails/appetizers and dinner. (We’ll be sharing links to some fabulous recipes!)

Get Squared® Retreats

Crochetville is very proud to have Get Squared® Retreats with us today, March 27, as one of the featured crochet-related companies on our 2016 Designer Blog Tour in honor of National Crochet Month (NatCroMo).

About Get Squared® Retreats

Ever since Jenny King taught a Get Squared® class in the United States for the first time last April, she and Amy Shelton have been talking about the need for a series of Get Squared® retreats. Crochetville and Jenny King Designs have been working hard for the past year to make this dream a reality. We are pleased that we’ll be offering retreats in three locations across the eastern United States in the summer of 2016.

Jenny Get Squared

Crocheters and knitters alike will enjoy this opportunity to spend three entire days learning how to make flattering crochet garments that will fit right the first time and every time, all without needing to read a pattern or make complicated pattern adjustments.

The prospect of crocheting a high-fashion garment is something that throws many crocheters into a tailspin. They dream of being able to make garments that will be flattering and fill them with self-confidence, yet they may be afraid of:

  • using gauge swatches to ensure their garment comes out the right size,
  • needing to figure out how to make pattern adjustments to make the garment fit properly,
  • not being able to understand complicated pattern instructions;
  • choosing a yarn that will not work well with the pattern; and
  • ruining expensive yarn from ripping out and adjusting too many times.

Jenny’s revolutionary Get Squared® program totally eliminates all these fears. As long as the attendee knows how to chain, single crochet, double crochet, and achieve fairly consistent tension, he or she should leave the retreat with a completed garment, based on the familiar granny square stitch, that fits as if it was custom-designed with that person in mind and looks nothing at all like a granny square afghan.

Instructors Jenny King, Amy Shelton, and Tammy Hildebrand will be on hand to provide 15 hours of instruction time during the retreat. Attendees who are brand-new to the Get Squared® concept will make a teddy-bear-sized sample garment that walks the crocheter through each step of the process. They will then proceed to get started on at least one of the original five garment styles. Exclusively at retreats, attendees who have already made Get Squared® garments will be the first to explore the newer styles designed by Jenny and to try on sample styles that have not yet been released. Also exclusively at retreats, Tammy will show attendees how they can get creative with stitch patterns to make even more one-of-a-kind garments.

Attendees will also be able to get to know the instructors personally, while enjoying breakfast and dinner with them each day in addition to fun evening activities. The entire retreat is designed to be an intimate, personalized experience: a true place out of time, a chance to get away from the stresses and cares of work and family life. A time to focus on being and becoming one’s most authentic, beautiful self.
