Want to Chat about the Tour?

Part of the fun of taking a passenger steam train trip is talking with your fellow passengers. This year, we’re providing two locations where our passengers can get to know each other. We’d love to hear about your favorite things you’ve discovered on the tour and see photos of your current crochet projects. You’re invited to join us daily for virtual cocktails/appetizers and dinner. (We’ll be sharing links to some fabulous recipes!)

Linda Dean

Linda Dean

Crochetville is very proud to have designer Linda Dean with us today, March 30, as one of the featured designers on our 2016 Designer Blog Tour in honor of National Crochet Month (NatCroMo). If you’d like to know even more about Linda, check out our post from last year’s blog tour.

About Linda:

I am a self-taught crocheter who enjoys creating and designing new ways to put stitches together. I enjoy crocheting, finding it as my relaxation and rejuvenation time. I believe that the work-through of a piece is just as important as the finished product; if you don’t enjoy the journey, the destination isn’t as wonderful as it could be (and it may never get finished!). I have been designing and published since 2012, and have been active with the Crochet Guild of America, currently serving on the Board of Directors. I am a Craft Yarn Council Certified Instructor and teach regularly at my local yarn shop in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains just east of Sacramento, while restoring the home that my great-grandfather built with my husband and kids.

Tell us about your favorite travel destination.

One of my favorite family getaways is on the Northern Coast of California. We usually find ourselves just south of Fort Bragg, where the cliffs drop to the ocean, the Redwoods hold the sea air, and a slower pace of life seeps into our souls. On one trip, we found that the town had been yarn bombed by the local yarn store. There was knit & crochet around the tree trunks, the pillars in front of buildings, on fence posts–almost everywhere you looked.

Do you visit yarn stores when traveling? If so, tell us about one of your favorite finds.

A few years back, I instituted a souvenir yarn shop stop with my family. They each pick out a skein of yarn that they like, and when we get home I make them something with it. It has been a great way for me to justify buying yarn while on vacation, while allowing me to relive the trip after I get home, and they get a memento of the trip.

Linda Dean | Crochet Egg Ornament

As Easter comes to an end, I will be sharing a free pattern for decorative eggs. A little yarn, some beads, and you have an extraordinary ornament. These are a beautiful addition to spring time festivities, and are a fast and fun project. In addition, I will be offering a coupon discount for my Ravelry Pattern Store. Come over to my site for the pattern and discount code!

Linda’s Designs:

If you’re not familiar with my work already, I’d like to share three of my designs with you.

Crossroad Leaves Shawl | Linda Dean

1. Crossroad Leaves Shawl, $6.00

Stunningly simple, yet the effect is confident and enjoyable. This simple stitch pattern allows the yarn to be the star; it has great drape and fabulous flow. This is a design you will work up over and over again.

Sun Twirl Cover Up | Linda Dean

2. Sun Twirl Cover Up, $3.00

Fast to work up and a breeze to wear! This cover up will be the must have for a day waterside. Created in the manner of filet crochet, this design is fun and rewarding.

BBD (Baby Brown Dog) | Linda Dean

3. BBD (Baby Brown Dog), $5.50

Let the little fellow enter your heart! Soft, pliable, and can easily sit, this is a favorite toy for children (and adults). It is just the right size to cuddle (or even just as a take along project). You will love to make it, and it will easily give love to those that hug it!
