About Kristin:

I am a creative entrepreneur embracing every aspect of life with artistic intention. I am a knit and crochet designer, author, video host and instructor, teacher, mentor, and I own my own yarn company.

1. Tell us about your favorite travel destination:

When I’m in NYC for work, I always make a side trip to walk through the garment district. I find so much inspiration from all of the vendors there: chains, beads, upholstery, fabric, feathers, you name it. And the energy of the city invigorates me, regardless of the time of year.

2. Tell us about a “dream” travel location that you’d like to visit one day:

I haven’t been on a vacation in over 14 years, but if I could I would love to travel to my heritage homeland Norway, and I would love to discover all the food around the entire Mediterranean Coastline.

3. Do you visit yarn stores when traveling? If so, tell us about one of your favorite finds.

I travel to lots of wonderful yarn shops when I promote my books, trunk shows for my yarns, and visit my wholesale accounts. I have the pleasure of meeting all kinds of people. I meet artists of all types, and not just fiber artists, either! It’s so beautiful that I’m there to inspire them, when really they inspire me, too.

4. Packing: Tell us about any crochet clothing or accessories you pack when traveling. Do you have any cool packing tips to share?

I prefer to wear handmade jewelry when traveling rather than packing it. Crochet clothing is a snap to pack, and I usually roll everything military-style to be able to get more into a small bag. The very best tip I can offer is to bring a travel-sized bottle of Wrapture in your bag. It works quickly and easily for crochet projects as well as lingerie and spot cleaning!

5. Tell us about any crochet projects you take with you when traveling: How many projects do you take? How do you decide which ones to take?

I like to bring a “no brainer” project when I travel. I have to talk a lot, and often without notice, so I need to be able to stand and crochet, talk and crochet, and set down my work at any given moment. The type of project you would take to a social crocheting setting is the type of project I’m talking about.

6. Do you have any stories or anything else travel-related that you’d like to share with our blog tour readers?

I’m so grateful that crochet was the craft I used as a coping mechanism when I was pregnant and homesick overseas. Were it not for the urge to sit on the beach alongside the Mediterranean Sea, teaching myself to crochet way back then, I would not be here today.

If you’re not familiar with my work already, I’d like to share three of my designs with you.

1. Majestic Skies Crochet Motif Shawl, $3.99

While this beautiful crochet motif would be gorgeous in a solid color, Kristin has taken it to another level with 4 gorgeous colors! In this pattern she will show you how to take a square motif, join it together to create a fabric, manipulate it to create triangle motifs in rounds AND rows, and even create an edging ALL WITHIN the same stitch pattern. And what a stunning shawl that results!

 

2. Budding Lotus Candle Holders, $3.99

I’m always on the lookout for ways to make quick, but thoughtful and beautiful, handmade gifts. Inspired by the bubble shape of these glass vases, I created beautiful lace crochet covers and crocheted them right onto the vases! The construction style is very similar to top down seamless hats, and I offer the patterns in multiple sizes. You could starch or glue your lace to your vases, but I used a decrease round at the end to crochet them securely to the vases! This pattern includes instructions for 4 stitch pattern designs, and in 3 sizes: 4”, 5.5” and 8” bubble vases.

 

3. Rio Mobius, FREE

This versatile mobius begins with a clever twist in the center and is simultaneously worked outward (to the top and bottom) in one piece. End it with a simple scalloped edging for perfectly seamless and one-skein project!
