Want to Chat about the Tour?

Part of the fun of taking a passenger steam train trip is talking with your fellow passengers. This year, we’re providing two locations where our passengers can get to know each other. We’d love to hear about your favorite things you’ve discovered on the tour and see photos of your current crochet projects. You’re invited to join us daily for virtual cocktails/appetizers and dinner. (We’ll be sharing links to some fabulous recipes!)

  1. My favorite hook is the one in my hand at the time that I am creating a gift for someone. I love and use all kinds, wood, bamboo, aluminum, steel, plastic!

  2. I love the warmth of wooden hooks and use them for blankets and garments. However, they I break too many wooden hooks when I’m making amigurumi, so use Clovers.

  3. My favorite is aluminum. However, I have never tried a wood crochet hook, so possibly it would be a new favorite for me.

  4. I mostly use aluminum hooks because that is what is readily available locally, but I have a couple of wood ones, too.

  5. My favorite crochet hook is probably metal with a nice handle, since that’s the one I reach for first, but a set of plastic hooks is my favorite for keeping in my car in case I misplace one for a take-along project, and I have some very very smooth wood hooks that are my favorite for “sticky” yarns and I have some not so smooth wood hooks that are my favorite for slippery yarns. If I’m concerned I’ll loose a hook for a take-along project my favorite is any of my inexpensive, can find anywhere hooks.

  6. I do prefer wooden crochet hooks, especially ones carved to be comfortable in the hand. that said… I’ll crochet with anything! ;D

  7. Call me crazy, but I like my plastic hooks for larger projects. I still use the tiny steels, though, for flowers and such. Truthfully, if I’ve got the size I need in any material when I need it, I’m happy.

  8. My favorite are the Tulip Etimo hooks. I won my first one on Crochetville! Very comfy on the wrists and fingers.

  9. I have only ever had aluminum crochet hooks but I have used wood knitting needles and I love them a lot and would love to have a wooden crochet hook/ set one day :]

  10. I like wood hooks for their lightness and warmth, but I use my Tulip Etimo hooks a lot because of the comfortable padded handle.

  11. I have no particular preference as of yet –I like the lightness and beauty of some wood hooks but have spent most of my life using aluminum or metal hooks. I’ve tried plastic and while it’s not my favorite to work with, I will use it if that’s all that is available. I’ve just ordered a Furls and am looking forward to taking it for a test run!!

  12. I’ve only used aluminum but I’d like to try some bamboo and wood hooks. I actually want to make my own out of some rose wood – but am left baffled as to how to figure out how to assign size to them for projects.

  13. My all time favorite crochet hooks are Knitter’s Pride soft grip. They are aluminum hooks but what I really love (besides the price) is the soft grip handle. It is super comfortable and with my old hands which are becoming somewhat arthritic this is a great feature.

  14. My fave hooks are the aluminum ones – they make the yarn flow the smoothest.
And Thank You Sheep Thrills! I’m going to come visit you!

  15. For standard crochet hooks, my current favorite are Clover Amour aluminum hooks with ergonomic handles. For Tunisian, I just got a set of wood Caspian interchangeables and love them. Until I get a second set, I vary between aluminum and bamboo for double ended tunisian work.

  16. I have mostly hand-me-downs…the basic metal hooks. I just used a bamboo hook for a chunky scarf (size P), and I loved it. Bet I would love bamboo in G & H too!

  17. These days I am really loving the plastic Crochet Lite hooks. They are comfortable to hold and the built in light is great for dimly lit places and darker yarns.

  18. I definitely prefer an in line head and have two hooks that I enjoy:
Susan Bates “Silvalume” (Aluminum) I like their bright metallic colors.
Knit Picks Caspian Wood They are so light I hardly feel like I’m holding a hook.

  19. I don’t really have a favorite, except prefer in-line. I mostly use my vintage aluminum or steel Susan Bates, as the cheapest alternative. But occasionally use my Furls, or my antique hooks, but I only use these hooks at home, so I won’t loose them. Whatever suits my fancy at the time. Thanks for an opportunity to win such a lovely giveaway!

  20. I like aluminum and steel hooks, but I also use bamboo, and wood hooks. I dislike the feel of plastic but I have some, that are big. Wood hooks have a nice warm feel to them. Thanks sharing for the give-a-way.

  21. I like using different types of hooks. I don’t stick to just one brand, or material. Depending on my project, I will use the hook that works best. Some tips are pointier, others are blunty, so it doesn’t matter to me. I love all hooks equally.

  22. That is the prettiest crochet hook I’ve ever seen! I’ve never used a wooden hook before, I regularly use aluminum hooks, or ergonomic ones that are plastic and metal. I’ve definitely found them to be easier on my hand and wrist, especially when I’m doing a crochet marathon!

  23. My favorite hook may vary with what I’m stitching. I like aluminum (Boye) at lot, but prefer a wider handle. I look for a hook that my yarn will slide well on.

  24. I have always used Bates , tried plastic once and hated it …. have heard bamboo/wood is nice but never tried them .

    Reply
  25. I do not have one favorite type of crochet hook – it depends on the project I am working on, the size of the hook and the type of yarn.

    Reply
  26. I am really fond of the ergonomic style hooks as they help my arthritic hands but I have some hooks similar to the birch hooks that are light weight and they work well too. The yarn in the giveaway is absolutely beautiful and if I don’t win, I will need to find out where I can acquire some.

  27. my newest favorite crochet hooks are the clover ones. I just recently purchased a set of them and that is all I have been using. I haven’t tried any of the wooded ones or any of the hand made ones. Would love to try them.
