I’m happy to announce the release of my new free crochet pattern Meandering Pathways Cowl. I really love mobius wraps! I hope you have as much fun making and wearing this cowl as I had designing it for you!

Basic Pattern Information

 

About the Pattern: I love Mobius wraps that provide a couple of wearing options. This wrap is long enough to be worn wrapped around the outside of your shoulders or you can simply hang it around your neck like a scarf. You can also wear it with or without the removable band with attached flower.

 

Meandering Pathways Cowl 2

 

Skill Level: Easy

Gauge: 1 row = 10” wide; 5 rows = 4”

Sizes: Small, Medium, Large

Measurements (before seaming): S (M, L): 53” (56”, 59”) long x 10” wide

Yarn:

Lion Brand Yarns Country® (100% acrylic, 5 oz/142 g, 156 yd/143 m): 2 balls, Color 278 Kennebunk Teal

Hook:

Size US M-13/9 mm OR US N-13/9 mm hook, depending on brand or size needed to obtain gauge

Supplies:

Front of flower: one 7/8” to 1-1/8” decorative button

Back of removable band: one plain 1-1/4” button

Sewing thread to match or contrast with button

Sewing needle

Tapestry needle

Scissors

Abbreviations:

ch: chain

dc: double crochet

hdc: half-double crochet

sc: single crochet

sl st: slip stitch

Pattern Notes:

You can vary the width by adding or removing chains in multiples of 5.

You can vary the length by adding or removing as many rows as you wish.

Size Small takes exactly one skein for just the cowl. Two skeins should be plenty of yarn even if you want to make a much larger size.

Instructions for Cowl:

Ch 28.

Row 1: Hdc in third ch from hook (first 2 ch count as hdc), [ch 3, skip next 3 ch, hdc in each of next 2 ch] 5 times, turn. (12 hdc, 15 ch)

Rows 2-65 (70, 75): Ch 2 (counts as hdc), hdc in second hdc, [ch 3, skip next 3 ch, hdc in each of next 2 hdc] 5 times, turn.

Row 66 (71, 76): Slip stitch short ends together to form Mobius tube by twisting rectangle once then working into each stitch of Row 65 (70, 75) and into each chain and the free loop at the bottom of each hdc from Row 1. (27 slip stitches)

Finish off and weave in ends.

Instructions for Removable Band:

Ch 7.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. (6 sc)

Rows 2-16: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

Row 17: Sc in each of first 2 sc, ch 2, skip next 2 sc, sc in each of last 2 sc. Ch 1, turn. (4 sc, 2 ch)

Row 18: Sc in each stitch across. (6 sc)

Finish off and weave in ends.

 

Instructions for Flower:

Ch 4, join with sl st in first ch to form ring.

Do not turn at end of each round.

Round 1: Working in ring, ch 1, [sc, ch 2] 6 times, join with sl st in first sc. (6 sc, 6 ch-2 spaces)

Round 2: [sl st, ch 2, dc, ch 2, sl st] in next ch-2 space 6 times. Do not join. (6 petals)

Round 3: Working in back bar of each sc from Round 1, [sc in next sc, ch 3] 6 times, join with sl st in first sc. (6 sc, 6 ch-3 spaces)

Round 4: [Sl st, ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, sl st] in next ch-3 space 6 times, join with sl st in first sl st.

Finish off. Weave in ends.

 

Removable Band

 

Attaching Flower to Band:

Center flower on end of removable band with no buttonhole. Place decorative button on top of flower. Place second button on wrong side of band directly behind first button. Use sewing thread to sew all layers together.
