Sarah’s Crochet Memories

Would you share with us one of your earliest memories of crochet?

My earliest memory of crochet is of a puff stitch blanket that my mother used to keep draped over the couch in our living room. I was just a child and I remember running my hands along the textures. I also remember coming across a box of my great grandmothers granny squares and lace samples. I loved taking these little treasures out and looking at them and I still treasure the lace samples. You could say that crochet runs in my family!

Would you share with us one of your memories of becoming a crochet designer?

I decided to get into designing crochet patterns at the encouragement of my husband. Some years ago I designed and crocheted clergy stoles to sell in my Etsy shop and then eventually started to do some custom designs by request. Eventually my husband convinced me to start writing these patterns down and offering them to others to also make. It was so much fun! That was now 2.5 years ago and I am still in love with designing. I love to be creative and I love to share that creativity with the crochet community.

Would you share with us one of your most memorable experiences as a crochet designer?

One of my most favourite memories as a crochet designer was from when I ran my first crochet-along! I designed a blanket based on my experiences on the shores of Lake Erie. The blanket is called the Erie Waters Throw. I really didn’t know what I was getting into when I decided to release the pattern as a crochet-along, but I’m so glad I did! Being able to crochet along with the crochet community was wonderful. Through the smaller group that was formed I met a lot of new crochet friends and I was inspired by their creativity, colour choices and over all enthusiasm for the blanket I had designed. It certainly encouraged me to keep on designing and run more crochet-alongs in the future.

About the pattern: This is one of my favourite blanket designs! As a stitch sampler throw, it introduces you to a variety of stitches and techniques. The pattern was originally designed as a crochet-along with photos and video tutorials to help you along the way!

Midwinter Blanket

About the pattern: I love to work with super bulky weight yarns, and this blanket is no exception! It features a clean and classic look. It’s the perfect blanket to snuggle up under on a cold winters day!

Rivers Shawl

About the pattern: The Rivers Shawl is made using a cake yarn which gives you waves of colour. These waves of colour are heightened by the open stitch work. Shawls are a great accessory to have on hand while running out the door or for throwing over your shoulders while reading a good book.
